Recently, I was reflecting on three core things needed to create change. This reflection was inspired by an invitation to be a panelist for Women on Boards: Representations Matters. I needed to provide a very brief bio for the event. And, I must admit, brevity is not my forte. As I was working on creating a brief bio, the following emerged to describe the work that I do/who I am:
Geetha’s curiosity, compassion, and commitment to empower and inspire change led her to start her own company, Fresh Insights in 2009. Working closely with clients, she helps reveal and foster ‘fresh insights…’
For some, I imagine this might be quite vague! I’ll share more on this topic later. For now, I’d like to take a moment to highlight why I chose these three words.
Curiosity: Without being curious, I believe we cannot ask questions. Without asking questions, we cannot learn. Without learning, we cannot understand. Without understanding, I believe, we cannot grow or change. I think it all starts with being curious.
Compassion: If we are curious, but don’t have any compassion, then I think being curious in and of itself is not enough to create change. We need to practice self-compassion to ourselves, and have compassion towards others, if (positive) change is to take place.
Commitment: I chose commitment, versus courage or other words similar to courage. I think commitment ties being curious and being compassionate together. We need to be committed in our curiosity, our compassion, and our courage to move forward to spark change for ourselves, and for one another. I think commitment is an importance piece in the puzzle, yet does not stand by itself alone.
What are your thoughts? = ) How does this resonate, or not resonate, with you?
